We have enrolled Ben in JK for September. However, the jury is still out on whether he will start this year. The decision still hinges on several factors:
1. Ben will begin his evaluation process at the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre on February 24th. I will discuss the JK vs. Daycare kindergarten debate with them. They may recommend that a consistency of care approach be best for him right now - i.e. stay in one spot all day, continuing with the people he knows and know him, continuing with the CISS support that comes to the daycare to work with him, etc. Rather than 2 hours at school then shuttling to daycare afterward.
2. Will Ben be potty trained by September '09? I believe he must be before being able to go to school.
3. Will he be placed in the morning or afternoon JK class? If it's not in the morning, then JK is not feasible from a daycare and transport perspective.
There are more thoughts swirling around in my head. Fred and I will decide in the summer what the plan is for fall and if that means we withdraw Ben's enrollment from the school, so be it.
